My Google for Education Journey - Part 2: Learn the Basics

Let the learning begin!

I've made a start on the Google for Education training, so stay tuned for my thoughts so far. If you haven't already, make sure you read my previous blog about why I decided to complete this certification. Regardless of your current qualifications, you're bound to learn something new from this course.

The setup

Starting out couldn't have been easier - you're just a few clicks away! It takes just minutes to get from here to beginning your first unit, so why not start now?

I've pieced together a short video so you can see for yourself how quick and easy it was, keep scrolling to check it out. I walk you through the steps to get the ball rolling, and Google's intuitive nature means you'll be flying through it in no time.

My thoughts so far

I've been pleasantly surprised by the content thus far. At first, I found the amount of reading a bit daunting, but it doesn't take long at all. Because your progress is automatically saved, you can get up and go for a walk or make lunch at any time, so you're not committed to sitting in front of your computer for hours on end.

The ideas and information provided in the course has been fantastic. I thought of myself as being a pretty tech-savvy user having used a few of the Google resources when I was completing my degree. Little did I know, I hadn't even scratched the surface!

There are so many applications and channels available through Google which make education a lot less complicated. For example, when you think of Google Sites, you'd probably picture a business or individual wanting to create a website for their blog, products or services.

You also get to see ideas from other educators, which is really interesting! Their comments vary so much which goes to show how diverse the Google platform is. It makes you stop and think "how can I use this application in a way that will streamline a process for me or my students?".

Moving forward

Now that I've completed the first section, "Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership", I'll be moving onto the next lot of units. The next one is a lot longer, so I'll be breaking it up and chipping away at it one unit at a time. I cant wait to see what brilliant ideas are within!

Here's a quick video tutorial to get you started:
